Job: Network Coordinator @CitizensForEU

cfe.eu logoCfE is a decentralized, experimental, and progressive initiative self-managed by European civil society actors in order to enlarge their networks, strengthen their political impact, and share ideas and good practices with other actors in Europe through an online platform (www.citizensforeurope.eu) and offline meetings.

The CfE website is designed to give visibility to European organizations and provide them with the necessary tools to spread information about their events, political proposals, and campaigns. It is therefore a great source of information on European CSOs and their activities, and provides a unique overview of non-profit actors, thus enabling organizations to find project partners in Europe.

The platform also provides organizations space to connect, exchange ideas, build thematic alliances, and create synergies. CfE works on a voluntary basis: Organizations are invited to develop the project according to their needs and expectations.

Until now, CfE governance has been led by a team of actors who have been involved in the project since its creation (hereafter referred to as the “core team”). Just like the CfE project itself, the core team is decentralized and open to new members. It meets at least twice a year to evaluate the progress of the project, set the annual priorities and define the medium- and long-term strategy.

Although CfE is to remain a loose network, it is now looking for a coordinator to actively manage its growth, development, and action.

Responsibilities

The position’s primary responsibility is to back up the core team, made up by several individuals from different countries, acting as a reference point for participating organizations and following up on the different initiatives undertaken by the project as it expands.

The network coordinator will have a strategic role to challenge the core team, develop, and structure its decentralized work procedures, but s/he will also be a crucial element in fostering the creation of common projects and thematic task forces among CfE-registered organizations.

Together with the web editor, the network coordinator will be in charge of managing the website, will ensure its functioning and contribute to the development of CfE tools. S/He will organize and stimulate the flow of information among CfE members and conceptualize a strategy that motivates organizations to be autonomously active and proactive on CfE platform and activities.

As the main point of contact for organizations, the network coordinator will monitor and share member activities (proposals, campaigns, events, etc.) throughout the network and act as a “bridge builder” between initiatives as needed.

The network coordinator will support the core team in implementing strategy and adopting priorities. S/He will prepare and follow up on meetings and push its members to action.

CfE is currently funded by the Fondation Charles Léopold pour le Progrès de l’Homme. The network coordinator will also be responsible for diversifying network funding via fundraising or EU grant applications.

Conditions

- Starting date: September 2013
- Location: open. The coordinator can either work from a city with very good intra-European transport connections, or be hosted by one of CfE registered organizations
- Salary: to be negotiated according to experience and location
- 2-year contract with a strong desire for extension
- Flexible (frequent travel in Europe)

Profile

- Experience and ideas in network processes and coordination, structuring procedures, and pushing decentralized diverse international teams to work effectively together
- Leadership skills: autonomy, taking initiative, being proactive
- Fluency in English and excellent knowledge of other European language(s)
- Affinity with IT questions and tools
- Be responsible for an intern/Leonardo/part-time staff
